Affiliate Marketing 101 – The Basics

I have been playing around with blogs for a while now and have been trying to devise a plan to maximize the economic potential of promoting affiliate programs. I have experienced some success with it and have shared my methods with some friends who have also become successful. At the very beginning, I found it very intriguing how blogs have the power to produce stable and long-term income. The key here is not to expect things over night. Why? Everything that is good and honest takes time. The products that people promote are absolutely ridiculous because the method may have worked for them but will not necessarily work for other people. It takes time for blogs to grow because as time goes on the blogger will create more content pertaining to that particular topic thereby catching the attention of search engines. The search engines bring in traffic to your blog. The more traffic a blog has, the more likely it is to make more money. For example, Adsense by Google is a mediocre way of earning money from a blog; however is nowhere as effective as affiliate programs. Affiliate programs have the potential to create long-term income. How and Why does this happen?

Some Reasons are:
1) Higher earning potential – doesn’t only depend on ad impressions and clicks, you make anywhere from 25-75% commission on each sale
2)Better integration with a blog’s niche/content – It is easier to relate to your specific niche in comparison to Adsense ads which at times can be more generalized
3)Variety – there are a large range of products to promote from all types of niches.

Possible Process to follow:
1.build organic traffic to a niche and test different affiliates
2.find something that works out of the possible niches and use PPC(pay-per click)

However, this is not a popular way to do earn money because it is very time consuming and takes some effort to build a organic site that will be worth of many visitors. Therefore, this is definately not a process that will make you millions over time.Another method to explore is to become a CPA(Cost-Per-Action) affiliate which refers to ad networks, retailers or companies that will pay you commission for every visitor you refer to their website/fulfills a specific action such as subscribing to a newsletter or opening a new account.

Blogs with search-engine friendly content can be a effective long-term way to promote specific affiliate programs. An organic site receives most of its traffic from search engines which is the most cost effective way to get into affiliate marketing.

Reasons why blogs are an excellent ways to make money from affiliate marketing:

1) There is only so much you can do with a static page. Once a consumer has viewed the content and dismissed it, there is a slim chance of them making a repeat visit. On the other hand, blogs can offer a variety of updated information and are a persuasive means that will could potentially convert doubtful consumers into willing referrals.

2) Blogs are slowly persuade a consumer into action. They work by gradually converting a visitor into action, while diffusing all misconceptions surrounding a specific product. Also, blogs can be persistent in a non-aggressive manner. One page ads hammer the consumer with benefits and testimonials while the well developed blog makes offers a friendly mannered atmosphere in which the customers and yourself engage in positive communication.

The DO’s and DON’TS of when you want to set up a money making blog:

1)The blog’s content should be unique. Attracts more loyal visitors, thereby increasing search engine position
2)The blog must have a very strong niche that relates to the affiliate program in question.
3)The blog must provide easy access to information that is perceived as authentic or delegated by an expert
4)Do Not plaster page with ads, it violates the customers trust because it makes it seem to money oriented
5)Keep the blog up-to-date on the trends surrounding the niche
6)The blog should have a personality and opinion. Therefore express your personal opinions

Although this is not a very in-depth list, I believe that it is sufficient enough to determine the effectiveness of a blog that is focused on making money via affiliate commissions. Although traffic and search engine position is important, the most important points to remember when creating affiliate blogs is the need to focus on persuasive writing, effective search engine optimization and most importantly, issues of trust between the customer and the affiliate.
